Youth & Afterschool Programs
As a father, local teacher and city councilmember, Robert Torres understands the importance of investing in the youth and their education.
Robert Torres has made it his top priority to fully fund District 6 after school programs at La Casita and Willie White Teen Centers. He increased funding for the city youth employment program so students can gain work experience and earn money. Robert Torres also worked to expand youth apprenticeship opportunities in the city and funded dental assistance programs to give free dental work to qualified children.
Most recently, he voted to establish a city youth commission, which will pay student appointees monthly stipends and allow members to lead city projects and make recommendations to the City Council.
